I Remember The Summer…

I discovered a land of sage and sand
New life bloomed from recent Spring
To test my mettle and strength of hand,
What strength of heart forced to bring.

To untrained eye a lifeless plain
Its acceptance not guaranteed
Trials, grit and often pain
Wild mesa will make one bleed.

Nature’s housewarming a coyote’s cry
Hide and seek their favorite game
they prance across a land so dry
Call each other by sacred name.

Wind and sun, neither friend nor foe
Just Nature’s way, of cleaning house
Test one’s will, to stay or go
From largest man, to smallest mouse.

To some a harsh, and barren land
To me its beauty, will never end
For hours on end, I toil an stand
observe the beauty, this land I tend.
